When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

What a story in 2 verses! Travelers, a star, a child, gifts. Overwhelming joy. This past year has been the most communally traumatic that I have ever experienced. I don't need to go into details because the traumas have affected us all. How do we move forward? How do we heal? One recent incite comes from healers of psychological abuse and trauma: build communities of understanding, allow ourselves to mourn, name our problem, engage in truth, find solace in nature, the art, worship, the transcendent. The magi can show us a way of navigating our upheaval by the contemplation of a light in the night sky, the miracle of the divine among us, the offering of the gifts we have to share and one more thing.....joy. Joy comes when we travel together and discover that each moment of this most incredible journey is saturated with life when we boldly live in the sparkling space between our past sorrow and our future anxiety. Joy is eternally present.

Holy God, may we travel wisely within arms reach of one another in this moment. Amen.
