Psalm 90:1-4,12
Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought
forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you
are God. You turn us back to dust, and say, "Turn back, you mortals." For a thousand years
in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night....So teach us to
count our days that we may gain a wise heart.

Where does the day go? Time flows through the fingers of our lives at a dizzy pace. We can
account for the time - we need to sleep, eat, travel to work or school, maintain the household,
and the day is easily consumed.  Another day on the books. "Counting the days that we may
gain a wise heart" is a different matter. The minutes spent listening instead of arguing bear
more wisdom of understanding than a lengthy assault. Time is best measured in holiness,
in the wisdom gained from choosing to spend it in the presence of God. A wise heart punches
a different type of time clock.

Teach us, O Lord, to measure our days with our hearts turned toward you. Amen
