The early Christians including Paul believed that the return of Christ and the onset of the Kingdom of God was about to happen soon, within their lifetime. They had detailed issues and chores that related to up-coming marriages, prescribed periods of mourning, property acquistions. Dropping everything and waiting on Jesus is good advice when we have lost our heads. It probably was not meant to be an excuse to abandon responsibilities or a way to shame anyone who didn't. Our lives are delicate balance of daily chores and larger purposes. Anytime we get out of balance, we need one another to help us find our heads again.

Holy God, may the details of our lives be woven into your tapestry of time. Amen.
