For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another. For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” If, however, you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.

The church newsletter used to be the one platform of social media in the life of the church. But anyone knows that the true social media in the life of a church gathering happens in the chit chat of the narthex, hallways, and parking lot. Social media now happens in multiple platforms. ELOGOS happens via email, facebook, twitter, website, ebook, paperback, and a phone app. The platforms can be magnets for our self-indulgence. We use the freedom of it to express ourselves in words
and pictures. Time and again we see celebrities, friends and ourselves send biting or offensive messages that damage our relationships. This brave new world of social media requires disciples that are called to see "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" on the send button. The hesitation it would cause might just be the difference between love and hurt.

Forgive, O Lord, the words that are mine alone and bless the ones that are mine and thine. Amen.
